THE ICONOCLASTIC DEAD: Mary Blair

Here's my piece for
THE ICONOCLASTIC DEAD with the Autumn Society!

♥ I chose Mary Blair, because she was such an amazingly talented female artist who worked in animation! I am sure I am one of many women (and men!) working in animation today who look up to her in more ways than one

KIRBY KRACKLE "Zombie Apocalypse" Official Music Video Animated

The music video that me and Damon O'Keefe have been working hard on for the past few months finally launched today!! : D
Damon basically directed the entire thing, and did all the character designs and 90% of the animation; I helped with some animation, and all the color, texture and editing/compositing. A huge thanks to the talented men of Kirby Krackle and all the love and support from our friends and family!

Enjoy, and please share!!! : D

OMG, I (heart) Ugly Americans

So, if you haven't heard me wax poetic about Comedy Central's new show, Ugly Americans, you obviously haven't spoken to me for more than 10 minutes in the past few weeks.

I am a huge fan of Augenblick Studio's previous show, Superjail (if you haven't seen it already, you really need to. I'm serious.), and I was really hoping this new show would match Superjail's surreal animation, oddly raw but appealing character design and wicked humor.

I am please to report that it does, indeed, live up to my high expectations. It is awesome, and you should be watching it. I have laughed my ass off at all three (four?) episodes so far.

So check it out! This is a sketch one of my fav characters, Callie the demon girlfriend.

So, in closing, Augenblick- great job!  Awesome work!  I am so happy to see an American studio making rad 2-d stuff. To that note, Cuppa Coffee Studios (based out of Toronto) seems to also have a hand in animating the series. To that, (and don't get me wrong, I love Canada), I say to Augenblick: PLEASE HIRE AMERICANS! There are tons of crazy talented animators out here in LA. Please hire us before sending more work up north.  We would seriously love to work on your shows. love, the los angeles 2-d animation industry.

Latest project

I'm currently working over at Animax Entertainment on a show for MTV called Popzilla

They posted about it on their blog, and have a pic of all us animators in the studio... can you spot me? ; D Damon's desk is the pair of screens in the lower left corner...

"While Bob & Doug McKenzie continues to do well on Global TV in Canada, Animax Entertainment is in the thick of animating Popzilla for MTV. The Flash animated sketch comedy show that skewers celebrities has been cranking with new bits added to the production pipeline every time a celeb does something dumb. We just hope that more of them stay alive so that we can (tactfully) make fun of them. RIP Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Ed McMahon."

Bird negative

I had some remnant ink on the next page of my sketchbook from the markers on yesterday's drawing, and instead of fighting it/ drawing over it, I decided it looked really neat and went with it.  I like the silhouette and simplicity of this one...

Happy mermaid

Sort of went off of Thought Faucet's theme of "Belt" and ended up with this... it's sort of like an obi belt, so that counts, right? ; )

(I tried your recommendation, mike (hobofish mike, as there are two mikes that i know of who read this) about making the outside lines heavier to contrast with the detail.. I really like how it turned out! thanks!!)

Swimming with sharks

Read an interesting article in my Smithsonian about great white sharks and about how they can be quite curious and intelligent, and how an experienced shark diver took a short ride on one's fin off of South Africa... this is more like a mermaid and her pet tiger shark, but there's the original inspiration!

Illustration Friday "Memory"

There was a page in an old children's book I once had that had a drawing of all these family pets that had passed away that fascinated me. This is sort of my version of that drawing, but with some of my own pets. They gave me and my family so many great memories,  I figured this would be a good one to share for this week's Illustration friday : )

*Chloe (left) and Koko (right), half siblings (belgian sheepdog and belgian malinois- same mother, but from different litters.. their mom was a police dog)
*Wishful the parakeet (I wished for a parakeet for like, two months straight before I got her, hence the name)
*Hermione (aka Ratty) the dumbo Rat who used to get her own muffin special made for her (no chocolate chips!)
*The three brother cats Lucky, Baby and Max (left to right), who we found in the attic of our garage when they were a day old.  Max seriously had a smiley face pattern on his belly!

Photo crazy!

My friends are visiting from out of town, so I've been going around to all the touristy parts of Hollywood I usually don't go and pretending to be a tourist myself!  I love taking pictures, so it's been fun being able to have an excuse to snap some fun photos around town...
