Illustration Friday: "Enough"

My submission for Illustration Friday's theme, "Enough."

I read this crazy article about octopi that have tons of extra tentacles (or arms)- one had up to 96 arms! Sounds like the gene that tells the tentacle gene "8 is enough!" is turned off in these little cephalopods!"

(the colors in my pic were inspired by a picture of a preserved octopi from 1957- very weird looking!)

Illustration Friday: "Foggy"

She hated those days when she felt like her whole head was just stuck in a deep fog.

Illustration Friday: "Sour"

For my Illustration Friday, I decided to draw the sweetest (and at one time my favorite!) drink - an Amaretto Sour! It's the most opposite of sour one can imagine- it just makes my teeth ache with sweetness just thinking about it!

Illustration Friday: "Fierce"

Maybe I'm still on a Narnia kick from last week (you know, first with Eustace the Dragon, and now with a Lion not unlike Aslan), but this was the first thing that popped into my head when I thought of this week's topic, "fierce."

*Ok. So I lied. I totally thought of Tyra Banks and her fierce eyes, but I couldn't quite bring myself to draw her or anything ANTM related, because that's a guilty pleasure of mine that I can't bring myself to admit. (oops! I just did!) Ha ha! (Ok, maybe this Illustration Friday theme deserves two entries this week ; )

Anyway, a lion -was- the second thing that I thought of, and that's the truth! Enjoy!

Illustration Friday: "Hoard"

Was having trouble trying to think of something to draw for this week's Illustration Friday; finally thought of something! Maybe a bit obvious, but ties into my recent dragon theme lately!

Bonus points for anyone who gets the golden arm-band reference ; ) (hint: it's from one of my favorite books!)

Cigarette break

"She would always take a long, meaningful draw on her cigarette before telling the punchline to the jokes that she would love to tell during her cigarette breaks."

Illustration Friday's theme, "punchline." Enjoy!

Illustration Friday: "Forgotten"

Blue jays are known for hiding thousands of caches of food and remembering exactly where they put all of them, but I think they're bound to forget where they hid at least a few of them every now and again! (much thanks to the fascinating tv program, "The Life of Birds" with host David Attenborough for this bit of info).

My submission for this week's Illustration Friday.

Illustration Friday: Baby

Portrait of a Chinese baby girl I saw over during my recent visit to China; my submission for this week's Illustration Friday! : ) (Sort of like an Asian Gerber baby!)

May 23, 2008

Fish aquarium store or restaurant? Eating out in Guangzhou, China, is like going to my favorite aquarium store, but here I have to worry about picking out my dinner instead of picking out something to decorate my tank with!

Illustration Friday "Electricity"

For Illustration Friday's theme, "Electricity," I thought of Topsy, the unfortunate elephant whom Edison electrocuted in order to demonstrate the dangers of AC current. I wanted to draw something that would capture the barbary of the act and add a crown of electric sparks, while incorporating the bizarre headdress that they put on her. I'd like to think of this image as some sort of electric ghost or spirit of Topsy.

Joshua Tree

I was in Joshua Tree for the weekend- here's a sketch of the park at sunset; Also, my submission for this week's Illustration Friday's theme, "Seed," for every mighty Joshua Tree must first grow from a small seed!

Painted Elephant

My submission for this week's Illustration Friday's theme, "Wrinkle." When I thought of wrinkles, I thought of elephants, and was inspired by the chalk ceremonial paintings that are done on elephants in India. Enjoy!

Illustration Friday: Primitive

This week's Illustration Friday theme made me think of paleolithic cave paintings (especially Pech Merle), so I drew up some primitive cave horses and played around with color. Really enjoyed this week's theme and result! Enjoy!

Illustration Friday: Heavy

Here's my take on Illustration Friday's theme, "Heavy." Maybe a little influenced from this week's episode of Lost, perhaps? ; )

Illustration Friday "Garden"

I'd like to be,
under the sea,
in an octopus's garden,
with you!

(for illustration friday, with apologies to the Beatles)

Illustration Friday: "Leap"

What better to celebrate a leap year than with a jumping frog!

Illustration Friday; "Multiple"

Multiple worlds, multiple galaxies.

This week's theme for Illustration Friday made me think of stars and galaxies and the multitudes of other solar systems, planets and worlds that exist besides our own.

Illustration Friday: "Theory"

Decided to illustrate "string theory" for Illustration Friday, which is more a visual playing with strings than the theory itself, which you can read all about here.

Illustration Friday; Choose

Quick drawing for Illustration Friday. The right to choose doesn't mean the choice is an easy one to make.
