Un-Colored (but Inked) Stuff

I meant to ink this all in, but never got around to it. Annnd, hence the backlog of drawings being scanned in... maybe I'll digitally ink them at some point?

Anyway, drawings! lots of them!

THE ICONOCLASTIC DEAD: Mary Blair

Here's my piece for
THE ICONOCLASTIC DEAD with the Autumn Society!

♥ I chose Mary Blair, because she was such an amazingly talented female artist who worked in animation! I am sure I am one of many women (and men!) working in animation today who look up to her in more ways than one

Day of the Dead PINATA??

So, those of you who managed to purchase the SUPER AWESOME Girls Drawin Girls 2010 Art Calendar will no doubt recognize my lovely pin-up art for the month of October- a Day of the Dead girl. (and YES, i know Dios de los Meurte is Nov 1-2. You'll just have to deal ; )

Well, I had a wonderful admirer of my work purchase the original painting, and ask my permission if he could one day design a pinata based off/inspired by her (to which I responded, "hells yeah!").

My friends, that day is NOW. (although, he says he's not calling this one technically a Pinata. But I like to think it is!)

Front view- love the inclusion of the bird on her head!

Check out those lacy hot pants! CUTE!

"October"

Here's one of my pieces from the Girls Drawin Girls Meltdown show! It's my piece for October for the GDG Art Calendar (on sale here!) You can see the original painting (also for sale!) up at Meltdown Gallery through the end of August.

I've also made this beauty into a magnet on zazzle if you're so inclined to have her on your fridge as well as your wall!

Sort of a Frida day of the dead thing going on (hair wise, anyway... didn't go with the unibrow look)

Day of the Dead pin-up, Part II

Day of the Dead pin-up

For my GDG Calendar... just some studies! Maybe instead of a Halloween themed girl, a Day of the Dead themed girl? (i.e. a pinup calaca ?)

Day of the Dead bride

One year I got to go to Hollywood Forever (yes, we have a cemetery in LA that's named "Hollywood Forever".. I know) and see their fantastic Day of the Dead celebration . They have beautiful alters, dancing, food and music- it's very joyous and beautiful.  Since then, I haven't had a chance to go the past few years due to conflicts (mostly it's fallen on the same days as my parties), and whatnot, but this year it was today. Alas, I just found out now, half hour before it ends.

Maybe next year I'll make it back!  Definitely something to see if you're in the LA area...  anyway, here's my calaca bride in all her finery :)

My piece sold!

Just a reminder! This Saturday, October 25th is the artist reception for the Skullz Day of the Dead show at Cactus Gallery in Eagle Rock, CA.  I'll be there, along with a bunch of my talented friends who are also in the show!

Also, my piece sold already (YAY!) I'm so happy!!! So come and see it in person because it's really neat; the photos don't do it justice with the sculptural element.

Para Los Niños

This is my piece for an upcoming Day of the Dead group show at Cactus Gallery in Eagle Rock, CA.  It was inspired by the colors and motifs of sugar skull candy and the idea of a shrine/alter to honor the passing or death of a loved one. In this case, an alter to childhood.

More views can be seen here

Lots of other works of art by other artists, including my good friends Damon O'Keefe , Crystal Stromer , Ashley Fisher , Gary Clair, and Kirk Millett , and more!!
