Another drawing inspired by Jason and the Argonauts! (and the wonderfully wooly Golden Fleece)
I also got a set of portrait shade Tombo markers, which are totally my favorite new art toy right now. And I'm on a "cream" set of pages in my Fabriano journal, which makes me just as happy : D

Shiva Mermaid... of sorts?
I like the concept of this one a lot- think it'd make a cool painting (sort of a hindi mermaid sort of character).. just a rough drawing for now, but I might come back to this later....

Reindeer girl
Still have a few more pages of text in my sketchbook before I have to move on to my new one (I got two new ones! Thanks ex libris !!) One of them has pages of sheet music- I'm really excited to draw on those next, actually... I really like the off-white color of the pages as well...
anyway, here's tonight's drawing.. not quite holiday-y, but the antlers are close enough to reindeer, right?

Two for one today! A unicorn and a Thought Faucet inspired vampire!
(I've discovered that the extra pages in my sketchbook from ex libris anonymous make excellent pages for doing watercolor work on, so that's why there's random text in the backgrounds of these. The original book that my sketchbook is from is an old Serendipity book "Flutterby." I think I had that as a kid originally- so awesome!!)

Winged cats
I read this crazy article today about winged cats in China (most likely matted hair, or at the most, a genetic defect), but it always seems cool when a news story has a little bit of magic in it, don't you think?

Comic-Con Inspired by: Jeremy Bastian

So I finally finished my piece from yesterday- this piece is inspired by Jeremy Bastian, a really great artist whom I've mentioned before. I was so excited to get to meet him at the Comic-Con- I wasn't even sure he'd be there, but I was lucky enough to happen across his booth and get to check out his stuff in person! His Tenniel-like illustrations are just exquisite, and he is such a nice and friendly artist to talk to. He has a great sense of combining mythological, grotesque, and fairy-tale like elements into his characters and pieces.
I managed to get a gorgeous griffin print from him, which is distressed to look aged and worn (giving it such a fantastic vintage look), and get to ask him about his upcoming book of compiled "The Cursed Pirate Girl" comics, which looks like it will be coming out in October. He also gave me and Damon a set of three beautiful prints of some of his characters from Cursed Pirate Girl- they'll look so nice framed together!
Anyway, I highly recommend checking Jeremy's work out- it's absolutely beautiful to look at and study all the details, and (as if it's not obvious to any long time reader of this blog), I have a penchant for things aquatic, so all his nautical themed art is right up my alley!

Illustration Friday: "Hoard"
Was having trouble trying to think of something to draw for this week's Illustration Friday; finally thought of something! Maybe a bit obvious, but ties into my recent dragon theme lately!
Bonus points for anyone who gets the golden arm-band reference ; ) (hint: it's from one of my favorite books!)

June 3, 2008; Red Dragon
Inspired from a dragon pattern on a tea set I got in Shanghai, China. (with bonus photo of actual tea set! I didn't end up getting the beautiful tray it is shown with in the store where I took the pic- all the tea sets I saw in China had these elaborate drainage trays that they came on).
(plus more fun with the pentel brush pen set!)

Objects from China:
Portrait of a Bronze age beast! Yes, another cool object from my favorite museum.
So now that I'm all caught up again, I'm off on another trip for the weekend (yes, I cannot stop travelling!), so unless I can figure out how to take fantastic cell phone pics of my sketch book and post them, look for more drawings on Monday! Thanks for bearing with the hit or miss updates as of late, but all the daily drawings are there and accounted for sooner or later! : )

This one is based off another gem from the Guangzhou's Museum of the Nanyue King; it's inspired from a jade dragon ornament that was found on the Nanyue King himself, and makes up the logo of the Museum.
