Puppies, puppies, puppies, puppies!

My friend Ashley and her boyfriend Dino has a wonderful holiday party that we went to: Dino also owns two cute French Bulldogs, which I totally fell in love with! Oh, for a puppy of my own!

Tastes like the Renaissance...

I saw a dog happily licking the pavement / questionable piece of paper outside the Duomo today and thought it must be Renaissance flavored...

In a 1920s kind of mood lately!

Get along little doggies!

Running back from the post office in Echo Park today, Damon and I saw an old cowboy /ranchero guy walking the two tiniest chihuahuas.  SO AWESOME!

(ps- he totally reminded me of a cross between Wilfred Brimley and the narrator from The Big Lebowski, but more Hispanic... and the chihuahuas were more fat/sassy than friendly, but it was easier to draw them happy!)

boston terrier!

I'm currently obsessed with boston terriers (and french bulldogs) at the moment. It doens't help that I came across a sample sale today for this place, which is basically a boston terrier themed clothing store . Ha ha ha!  Seriously- they have some cute stuff! And I think my great-aunt used to raise them, or so I'm told...

Another late night drawing! This one is based off an adorable french bulldog I saw out tonight- such a cute breed!

New painting

Made a portrait of Ashley's dog Beamer for her birthday present (Happy birthday Ashley!!); it's acrylic on wood panel with a varnish coat, 5" x7".

Illustration Friday "Memory"

There was a page in an old children's book I once had that had a drawing of all these family pets that had passed away that fascinated me. This is sort of my version of that drawing, but with some of my own pets. They gave me and my family so many great memories,  I figured this would be a good one to share for this week's Illustration friday : )

*Chloe (left) and Koko (right), half siblings (belgian sheepdog and belgian malinois- same mother, but from different litters.. their mom was a police dog)
*Wishful the parakeet (I wished for a parakeet for like, two months straight before I got her, hence the name)
*Hermione (aka Ratty) the dumbo Rat who used to get her own muffin special made for her (no chocolate chips!)
*The three brother cats Lucky, Baby and Max (left to right), who we found in the attic of our garage when they were a day old.  Max seriously had a smiley face pattern on his belly!

Ay chihuahua!

Was inspired by this cute little statuette I got of a black chihuahua last year in Tijuana when Damon and I went down to the San Diego Comic-Con... looking forward to going again to Comic-Con this year! : D (and maybe another trip south of the border!)

Lunch in the park

Brought my sketchbook to the park today at lunch- seriously saw this guy walking his dog. Quite comical- I'm not even exaggerating!

the eternal question...

Based loosely off of our family pet corgi, Angel. Seriously, anybody who names their dog/cat/etc "Angel" is just in for trouble. (And yes, she does usually have that blank look on her face even when she's up to her usual antics. ; ) But we still love her!)
