Soo behind!

Man, I just get caught up posting to my blog only to fall behind again!

Well, I've been busy making art for a slew of shows (which I have been posting!). I also spent last weekend (well, the weekend before last) in Marshall Vandruff's Animal Anatomy three day workshop at LA Academy of Figurative Art, which totally kicked my ass! (In a good way!)

I literally have tons and tons of pages of notes and sketches of animal anatomy stuff, but I'm just posting a few of my gestural study pieces. But man, that class was awesome- if you ever get a chance to take a class by Marshall, DO IT! But seriously, it was non-stop drawing and soaking in information for three straight days! It was exhausting drawing that much!

Also, we primarily drew horses (since they are the "piano" of animals- you know the basics of a horse, you can apply it to other animals), which I totally LOVED. Seriously. Drawing horses for hours= daisy a happy girl!

We also did a fun exercise where we looked at a photo of an animal and drew a person based off the animal. These were two goats i drew into girls...

The frame (not pictured yet) is going to by a Florentine framer- they take their framing VERY seriously here!! It's a whole artform in and of itself...

The piece is of the Four Horses of St Marks.. originally from an ancient Roman hippodrome in Constaninople!

If Wishes were Horses; Reception 1/31/09

Thanks to the very kind owner, Steve, down at Silverlake's own Living Room store down on Sunset Blvd., it's been made possible for me to ship and bring out a collection of my very large and favorite paintings that I did quite a few years ago back in school.  Only a few select paintings are actually on display full time in the store, but for one night, we are going to hold a reception and hang all the pieces that were shipped out so that all my LA area friends can come by and see all my large-scale horse paintings in person, since they're really amazing- most are around 6'x6'.  The pictures I have online do them no justice, and it's so great to see them up and on the walls again.

So, it would do me a great pleasure if any if you LA area folks would like to swing by the Living Room next Saturday, January 31st, between 6-9pm and join us for food and beverages and check out my work.  Hope to see you there!

Me and my Crazy Horse

Had to go and get the crazies out of my horse today! (she was born to run, after all! She has that thoroughbred blood in her)

I think my horse bit off more than she could chew today- she stole an entire apple out of my hands and had the entire thing stuffed in her mouth before I even got the little fruit sticker peeled off of it!



Plus, gotta do some shout-outs; check out some of Damon's cool super hero and monster portrait series going on (gotta go back to May to see some of the monsters)- he's been starting to draw with brush-pens, and I think he's been doing some awesome stuff with it lately! (love those post-its!)

Illustration Friday: Primitive

This week's Illustration Friday theme made me think of paleolithic cave paintings (especially Pech Merle), so I drew up some primitive cave horses and played around with color. Really enjoyed this week's theme and result! Enjoy!
