Haven't done an Illustration Friday piece in forever!
I can definitely relate to feeling worn out..

T is for tiger

I really like how this turned out- esp since it was all from my head, with no reference. Whoo!

PIRATES!!!

Our figure drawing model tonight at Film Roman was dressed as a pirate, and he had tons of props! (and a musical score to boot! we drew to music from Hook, Treasure Island, and probably a few of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies).

It was, in one word, awesome.

Tia Dalma

Even if Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3 were questionable movies, plot wise, I did always like the aesthetics of Tia Dalma- she just seemed like a really cool character to me for some reason- that whole voodoo priestess thing with the weird dot face tattoos meets old 18th century fashion.

Plus, I like that she's actually the sea nymph Calypso- I think cooler in concept rather than in actual execution within the movie, but I liked the idea.   I liked out this drawing turned out- although all of her cool dress is hidden underwater (or is it??) ; )

Olympic opening ceremony sketch

Just a quick sketch from watching tonight's Olympic opening ceremonies- loved some of the women's costumes and the overall amazing choreography!

Lucy in the Sky

Just watched "Across the Universe" tonight and was inspired by the final credit song for this drawing "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds." I forgot that Julie Taymor directed this movie- I love her stuff so much! She has such a sense for beautiful visuals and interesting art direction.

Two for one!

Just some quick sketches for tonight; there's the "whoo hoo Comic-Con!" one and the other one was inspired by a happy Rogue Wave song. Guess which is which?

Enjoy!! : D

Peonies in watercolor.

Found an amazing Pentel brushpen watercolor kit in Japantown in San Francisco called Kinokuniya Stationery and Gift, and was so excited to try it out by drawing a beautiful bouquet of peonies at my future mother-in-law's house. It was so much fun to use! I love brush pens, and these were so fantastic to try out- I can't wait to use them some more! : D
