PIRATES!!!

Our figure drawing model tonight at Film Roman was dressed as a pirate, and he had tons of props! (and a musical score to boot! we drew to music from Hook, Treasure Island, and probably a few of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies).

It was, in one word, awesome.

You Only Live Once, Aki

Was watching "You Only Live Twice" (thank goodness, another Bond theme song to replace the "Goldfinger" song that's been on loop in my head the past few days!) and got a kick out of Bond's temporary love, Aki.  Alas, she was only one of many of the Bond Girls to fall to the wayside, (spoiler!) by way of a ninja and poison!

May 16th, 2008

Our first meal in China! Our friend and host in Shanghai, Michelle, bought us to a local Chinese-Muslim noodle shop where they were making up some fresh ramen noodles. It was a super yummy meal and a great way to start off our trip!!

Too many headaches

Was inspired by some of Louis Roskosch's work, which was mentioned on Drawn! this week; love his lines and some of his color sense, so I tried incorporating some of that in this piece. As the title says- I've been dealing with too many headaches lately. Hopefully they'll clear up enough for my big trip coming up this week.

Draw yourself as a teen meme

Damon did this livejournal meme, and figured I'd give it a whirl:

Draw yourself as a teenager and now

I think I've come a long way, myself! (ps- yes, I used to wear plaid shirts, but not because I actually listened to grunge music; just because it was a fashion trend and I was just happy that my dad had some cool looking shirts I could borrow!)

Mountain Quail

Finished off my trip to Joshua Tree earlier today with a hike to 49 Palms Oasis and saw tons of Mountain Quail, so my drawing today is of one! They were so amazingly adorable- snapped some great pics of them a well! Enjoy! (ps- guacho boy is the name of the book from which my new sketch book came from)

Illustration Friday: Primitive

This week's Illustration Friday theme made me think of paleolithic cave paintings (especially Pech Merle), so I drew up some primitive cave horses and played around with color. Really enjoyed this week's theme and result! Enjoy!

Hummingbird book

My sketchbook is an old book about hummingbirds that I got from exlibrisanonymous.com , and they keep some of the cool original pages in with the sketchbook pages. I'm feeling under the weather, so I decided to do something simple and play around with some of the original illustrations and draw on top... enjoy!

Cheetah

Was reading a very interesting article about cheetahs and cheetah conservation in my Smithsonian magazine and was inspired. Very interesting stuff!

Paintin' away

Worked on my real painting tonight; got a good chunk of work done on it. Good to be painting again- haven't worked on any of my physical painting stuff in too long. I'm taking pictures of it in progress; I'll post the whole series when I finish it so you can see the work process.

And yes, it is a painting of Ghost with a rainbow. Awesome!
