Pearls and Ribbons: IF Mesmerizing

I thought this would be a good IF drawing for "Mesmerizing" because I love the patterns and shapes of ribbons and strings of pearls; something about the repetition of shapes is very mesmerizing! : D

Elephant Head

I like how the blue pencil lines show through her skin tone, and also this was sorta influenced by Audrey Kawasaki's latest pieces (i.e. Charlotte) with all the beautiful bones. I find skeletons/ skulls so beautiful! And elephant skulls are so crazy looking....

I'm also entering this into Illustration Friday's hat of "Influence," because I feel my work is very influenced (and inspired!) by Audrey's work : )

Illustration Friday- Wrapped

Long time since my last IF post! This week's theme, "wrapped," totally reminded me of the obis on japanese kimonos, and how ornate they are.  The whole ensemble of a kimono is like a gorgeous present wrapping up a beautiful woman!

Illustration Friday: Instinct

The maternal instinct is a strong one! I tried making these two images relate to one another more, and I'm not sure I succeeded, but I wanted to submit something for this week's IF theme!  Enjoy! : D

Illustration Friday: Celebrate

I tried to draw an image of a girl dancing or somehow looking very happy and celebrating, to try and fit into IF's theme this week (even if it is under the wire for making it last second!!)

I'm happy I finally found something nice to draw on top of the bizarre photo from my sketchbook of a robin feeding a snake to baby birds. (although, one could argue the baby birds have something to celebrate as well!)

Illustration Friday: Pale

Was working with colored pencils on cardboard, and was thinking how pretty white bones are both in form and in color against the texture of the brown paper surface.  I was thinking the colors and skeletons as being pale, but also trying to infuse it with a glow of color at the same time... enjoy! : D

Just a reminder! This Saturday, October 25th is the artist reception for the Skullz Day of the Dead show at Cactus Gallery in Eagle Rock, CA.  I'll be there, along with a bunch of my talented friends who are also in the show!

Illustration Friday "String"

Just started drawing a body shape, and was thinking of the IF theme, and got this- I like that it's sort of "magic harp" looking. Enjoy!

Para Los Niños

This is my piece for an upcoming Day of the Dead group show at Cactus Gallery in Eagle Rock, CA.  It was inspired by the colors and motifs of sugar skull candy and the idea of a shrine/alter to honor the passing or death of a loved one. In this case, an alter to childhood.

Illustration Friday "Clique"

As a teenager, Medusa hated all the cliques in her high school and always felt left out. What she didn't know was that most of her classmates just mistook her stony glares for snobbery.

Damon has inspired my Illustration Friday post twice in a week now, and although he likes to give me crap about it, isn't imitation the most sincere form of flattery? (I think his is cuter anyways ; )

And anyways,  it was that or my poorly drawn Sawyer from Lost (trust me, this is cuter... I can't draw guys... I was debating drawing a puppy over the entire thing)

I'll be away from a scanner for a few days, so no updates, unless I can McGyver my camera phone to take low-res pics of my sketchbook to upload- we'll see!
