Crane Wife and "Myth" at Modern Eden

Sorry I'm late in posting this, but between travelling to Japan and work deadlines, haven't had a chance to update here!

Wanted to let you know of my latest work hanging at the very wonderful Moden Eden gallery here in San Francisco! I was lucky enough to be part of their latest group show, "Myth," and returned to a subject I find myself coming back to time and time again; the Japanese folktale The Crane Wife.

More info "behind the work" and purchase info here!

I failed to post about the opening reception back on July 14th, but luckily, there is a closing reception in conjunction with North Beach First Fridays on Friday, August 3, 2012.   A special musical performance by North Beach acoustic guitarist, Mark Simons (marksimons.net) will be featured. The closing reception will be held at 403 Francisco Street from 6-9pm.

Sketchbook Project

Sooo... I was gonna do the Sketchbook Project, and then I didn't fill my book in time, so I have a half baked lil' sketchbook on my hands. Ah well!

Here a few drawings that never got scanned in... the theme was "And Then There was None," so I wanted to interpret it as mythological/ extinct things...

The Golden Fleece

Another drawing inspired by Jason and the Argonauts! (and the wonderfully wooly Golden Fleece)

I also got a set of portrait shade Tombo markers, which are totally my favorite new art toy right now. And I'm on a "cream" set of pages in my Fabriano journal, which makes me just as happy : D

Swoon Show Wrap-Up!

Thank you to EVERYBODY who made it out last night to check out my show, hosted by Swoon Gallery and our friends at Tub Tim Siam!

It was a wonderful evening, and we had a great turn-out. I created over a dozen new original paintings for the show, as well as framed sketches and drawings of my studies for the final paintings.

I did a series of ten bowls, each representing a different Japanese animal and woman, and two separate pieces representing Japanese witches/demons.

Here are a few samples of some of the bowls and demon pieces:

You can see pictures of all the pieces and photos from the show here:

If you are interested in purchasing any of the remaining pieces, please see the official gallery site for availability and prices!

Painting idea 12/28

Still brainstorming for the upcoming LA Myth show... been playing around with the concept of a fire demon of sorts, with all the recent fires, and combining some photographic elements of the fire damage from the canyon where I keep Ghost with some painting elements... here's just an idea...

Wednesday, 9/24/08

Two for one today! A unicorn and a Thought Faucet inspired vampire!

(I've discovered that the extra pages in my sketchbook from ex libris anonymous make excellent pages for doing watercolor work on, so that's why there's random text in the backgrounds of these. The original book that my sketchbook is from is an old Serendipity book "Flutterby." I think I had that as a kid originally- so awesome!!)

Illustration Friday "Clique"

As a teenager, Medusa hated all the cliques in her high school and always felt left out. What she didn't know was that most of her classmates just mistook her stony glares for snobbery.

Sailors beware!

Also, thanks to everybody who came out to the art opening tonight! It was so great seeing everybody! : D
