LA Myth Show 2/7/09

Another art show announcement! In TWO weeks (don't worry, I'll remind you!) my fantastic friends Dee and Aaron are throwing the 2nd LA Myth show at Meltdown Comics up on Sunset Blvd. This show is a group show featuring the myths and monsters that haunt our dear Los Angeles, and last year was a blast!

It's going to be a great night with tons of talented artists, crazy fun art, and in the back of (one of!) LA's most awesome comic book stores. Damon and I both have pieces in the show, plus a bunch of other talented artists, so check it out!

Study, plus work in progress

Worked a little on my painting tonight; working out some details on one of the characters in my sketchbook and just a small color thumbnail just to hash out some basic sense of the piece.

Painting ideas on post-its! All themed around the LA area fires we had this year- the idea of a fire goddess/spirit (Spirit of the Santa Ana winds) and the burnt up canyon where I keep ghost.

Still brainstorming for the upcoming LA Myth show... been playing around with the concept of a fire demon of sorts, with all the recent fires, and combining some photographic elements of the fire damage from the canyon where I keep Ghost with some painting elements... here's just an idea...

LA Myth: The Heat Wave!

This angry beast is currently oppressing our fair city in it's sweaty, stinky grasp; the Heat Wave- bringer of Brown Outs, 110 degree days, and burning hot cars left in parking lots.

(Originally, I had based him off of a toad, but I think he ended up looking like an angry orange fruit, which I think makes him even funnier- ANGRY CITRUS MONSTER!! ha ha! I also tried to make him look a little like a sun.)

Traffic Dragon

Another idea for an LA Myth- the Traffic Dragon- the evil spawn that is born when the 405, 110, 101, 170, 134 and 5 all merge together into one terrifying traffic jam!

San Andreas Dragon

Was thinking about last year's LA Myth show and how awesome it was, and thinking (hoping?) it might come around again (it should- it was seriously a really nifty concept for a show), but if it was, I would love to try and submit something to it. Here's a rough concept I was playing around with; The San Andreas Dragon; the real reason LA has earthquakes. Maybe next time; the Traffic Dragon! ha ha!
