My sketchbook is an old birding book, and had this fantastic page in it illustrating the Ivory-Billed woodpecker , also known as the "Lord God Bird" or the "Good God Bird" from the exclamations of awed onlookers, since it's a huge species of woodpecker. It was thought extinct from 1944 until 2005, when there were a few confirmed sightings around Arkansas.

The 13th room 11/15/08
The night before the wedding, me, Damon and my family stayed at Deetjens Big Sur Inn . Damon and I were in the cabin/room called "the 13th room," which was so charming and quirky- full of so many oddities! There was an elf door, jars of hidden notes, a journal full of past visitor's entries (fascinating in it's own regard), and a bunch of crazy old antiques, most notably, the Elephant Grandma. (don't ask!)
It was the best place to get ready for the big day- serene, a great sense of history, sleeping/waking up nestled in the redwood canyon next to a gurgling creek, and just wonderful. Also, they have amazing eggs benedict in the restaurant for breakfast!

Whale rider
Come see the magnificent Whale Riding Wonder! What I wonder, though, is how that fancy feather on her headdress stays dry!

Anyway, I'm off to San Diego Comic-Con through Sunday, so even though I'll be doing my drawings, I most likely won't have access to a scanner/computer, so updates til then- looking forward to seeing all the art books, toys, and crazy crush of humanity!

Objects from China:
Yet another awesome find from the Guangzhou's Museum of the Nanyue King; this one is a top decorative piece for an ornamental room screen divider; originally feathers were placed on the top of his head. I absolutely love his smile- some sort of demented Chesire Cat demon god!!
