more shout outs!
I just wanted to recommend some cool blogs for all of you to check out- first is the illustrious marc deckter and his fantastic blog "Duck walk." Marc is one insane and talented animator/artist who went to USC with me and last I heard was working with the man John K himself. He also has an incredible archive of stills and breakdowns from classic/old animations. Go check him out!
Also wanted to point everybody's attention over to the new blog by Mike Hendron, architect and fellow fish fancier extraordinare! Some really neat stuff- you won't be disappointed!

the mynah bird and the robot
drawing of the day for sunday, jan 28th!
my friend arthur and kelsie had the funniest story about arthur's pet mynah bird he had when he was a kid. Apparently, whenever the bird saw this certain toy robot, it would freeze in whatever position it happened to be in, and just stay that way until the robot was out of sight.
Made me laugh and draw this little doodle up!

Polar bears!
I found out that they're considering adding the polar bear to the endangered species act. If you're interested in being involved, go sign this petition to request that the Bush Administration hold public hearings on the matter.

drawing of the day for monday; getting behind in scanning this one, but here it is!
My day was bookended by fire; woke up at 6am by a fire in the bf's apt building with firemen, trucks, and news helicopters (thankfully, nothing serious; just lots of smoke and a small fire that was quickly put out), and finished the day having a potluck dinner with my fire performance troupe Fuoco Nostra
So this is me pondering all the fire that monday had brought me.

Tagged!

My friend Dee tagged me to name 6 weird things about myself...
1. I love collecting siamese fighting fish. I have over 25 right now, and yes, all in their own tanks...
2. I tend to temporarily obsess over certain video games- I play one really intensely for a few months, then drop it without ever finishing it. (I like the idea that I need to go back and finish it at some point, but I never actually do)
3. I play with fire. Literally. I do fire dancing with fingers, fans, cups and staff, and I'm learning how to eat fire right now.
4. I collect My Little Ponies. I have over 300 original MLPs and playsets at home. (see a small glimpse of it here . I also replace wings for the summerwings and windywings series.
5. I've been to every state in the US except two: Alaska and Arkansas.
6. I love the smell of dust burning (like when you turn an electric heater on after a while).
Ok, I tag DAMON (who was already tagged by Dee, but I'm re-tagging him 'cause he hasn't done it yet), and DANIELLE!

This is a small sketch of me watching the animation program at Sundance. I had a killer headache, which sucked, but luckily there were a small handful of cool films that made it all worth it. There was also this girl that had neon green glitter "Kiss"-esque eyemakeup and bright purple hair sitting a few rows in front of me. Bizarre.
Anyway, films that I recommend for checking out are:
One Rat Short (Alex Weil)- Solid first time CG film, very nice rat animations, but a bit of a sad ending.
Duct Tape and Cover (Yong-Jin Park)- Cute parody of old 1950s nuclear fallout films with current events.
and my fave, Golden Age (Aaron Augenblick)- Sort of a "Where are they now" version of various cartoon archetypes.
(** all done in flash! Got to talk to Aaron afterwards- very cool guy)
Dreams and Desires, by Joanna Quinn was cute, if not confusing (need to watch it a second time I think), and Don Hertzfeld's latest venture of "Everything Will Be OK" was better than his last film, but not as great as his first ones... I enjoy his comedic pieces much better than these recent "artsy" films that he's been doing.
The rest... (eye twitches)... please don't ask. I've had my share of artsy films, true, but man. They (Sundance) really could have selected a better overall program, I think. But oh well.. on to my drawing of the day!

2 for 1 sunday! + TWOG challenge!
Illustrated scrabble, part deux! What's a "Twog?" you ask. We asked that too, after my friend tried to play it on the scrabble board. It may not be in the dictionary, but we all had an idea or two what one would be! If you think you know what a TWOG is, draw it, blog it, and let me know; I'll link to it from here! Twog away!
Here is what I think a TWOG looks like:

spotted ratfish!

I saw a super cool show about sharks, and they showed this neat little dude: the chimera ratfish. He's a type of Chimaera; which are related to sharks. They're just so neat looking! Check out more about them here .

Cat and Fish

Upon finishing, I realized that this is probably inspired by Dee's submarine pufferfish piece; so a major nod to her! ; ) Go go submarine-animal ridin' themed pictures!

Joining the ranks of the blogosphere
So, I'm aquiescing and joining the ranks of the many artists and animators out there and incorporating a blog into my website to show off art/animation, etc. To start the blog off right, I'm going to link to my demo reel with my latest work from my work on Metalocalypse. Enjoy!
