Snow Bunting

Just practicing with colored pencils and markers. Many thanks to Crystal for teaching me about colorless blenders (it's the little things they never teach you in art school... )

(some new additions to the blogging scene- check out Crystal's blog, and Anna's digital painting blog. Some great stuff going on over at both sites! Check them out!)

Patio Plant, Part II

Another patio plant from lunchtime at the office- enjoy!

It may seem abstract...

But it's actually a sea cucumber called the "Deep Sea Spanish Dancer." Referenced from a great book, "The Deep," by Claire Nouvian it's a fantastically beautiful photo essay on deep sea photography- every page looks like some sort of exotic alien. Me, I think the deep sea spanish dancer looks like a floating heart. But hey! There you go. Enjoy!

Painted Elephant

My submission for this week's Illustration Friday's theme, "Wrinkle." When I thought of wrinkles, I thought of elephants, and was inspired by the chalk ceremonial paintings that are done on elephants in India. Enjoy!

Orchid

Quick plant sketch! Found my trusty case of favorite pencils and pens, (FINALLY!- lost them during the move), so back to my brush pen. Don't worry! I'll be back to my colored pens and pencils once I'm not super tired and wanting to crash out immediately...

Indian goddess

Inspired a little bit Durga, but instead of weapons, little handfuls of fire. Took a bit of reference from Kali as well- but mostly the headdress... Enjoy!

Hummingbird

Still playing around with colors with the markers and colored pencils- a bit more detailed than the other drawings; might try to simplify the lines/color more in the tomorrow's drawing, but was inspired by a friends' pic of hummingbirds feeding from a friend's hand. Enjoy!

Peacock, color study

Went back to try and re-work the earlier peacock with color, but didn't like the composition, so tried a different angle and approach- really like the marker/ colored pencil combo. Very happy with this result! I need to get some light colored markers for more background color bases (more than yellow, orange and green, anyway)

Continuing on the theme...

So, in part from Tyree's suggestion I take a look at MF Husain's work based off of my past few posts (especially inspired by this drawing of his), and trying to combine the fun I had with the colors and lines of the primitive drawing with the themes of the Indian maiden drawing, this is what I came up with- I'm really enjoying the results. Thanks Tyree!! Awesome recommendation! : D (Maybe I'll try coloring in that peacock next!)

Illustration Friday: Primitive

This week's Illustration Friday theme made me think of paleolithic cave paintings (especially Pech Merle), so I drew up some primitive cave horses and played around with color. Really enjoyed this week's theme and result! Enjoy!

Indian Maiden, Part II

Took a suggestion to do another pass on yesterday's Indian maiden and do her in color, so here it is! Thanks afsha! : )

Saw one little ladybug on a bright green leaf today on my trail ride with Ghost- struck me to see something to tiny and dainty while riding by on something so big and fast

Are you an artist?

If you are an artist concerned about losing your copyrights, you really want to read this article

Have you heard of the new Orphan Works legislation that is before Congress?

This matter might be familiar to some of you, as it has been dangerously floating around for the past 2 years.
The combination of apathy from the world of artists, and the involvement of big corporations trying to benefit financially from this huge potential pool of revenues have lead this awful legislation proposition to still be alive before Congress today.

Read this AWN article, judge by yourself, and take appropriate measures.
No one will ever speak for yourself better than yourself.

Frisbee in the park

Been going up to a park next to our office for lunch this week and throwing around a frisbee- one day I was dressed in a skirt and felt very fancy girly, so this is sort of a reference to that!

Komodo dragon

Been reading Douglas Adam's wonderful book, "Last Chance to See," which is basically a travelogue about Adams going around the world tracking down endangered animals and writing about them. A bit travel writing, a bit comedic, a bit conservationist, and all Adams- highly recommend! Anyway, it a very interesting chapter regarding Komodo Dragons which inspired today's drawing... enjoy!
